With fall approaching September marks the perfect shoulder season for a lot of beautiful places which means a higher chance of less crowds, and better rates; we’ve rounded up a list of the best places to visit this month!
1. Barcelona, Spain
The 24th of September marks one of the city’s biggest annual fiestas—La Mercè. It is an official holiday honouring the patron saint of Barcelona and takes the form of more than 600 indoor and outdoor events, most of which are free.
2. Rome, Italy.
Rome is a city that’s best discovered on foot, which is why it’s so wonderful to visit during the fall. The cool weather and the lack of hordes of tourists allow you a better chance to take in all the all the beauty and culture of the place.
3. Paris, France.
It’s often been said that there isn’t really a bad time to visit Paris. However, the city famously grinds to a halt in August, with the French taking their annual holiday and many of the shops close. Visit in September and you’ll witness the great city roar back to life!
4. Yellowstone National Park, United States.
The massive park is a highlight of the U.S. National Park system and a breathtaking wonder at that. Reconnect with the beauty of nature during the fall where the cooler temperatures are guaranteed to make your hikes and picnics even more pleasant.
5. Prague, Czech Republic
There’s no bad time to visit Prague; stepping into this city feels like stepping right into a fairytale. Visiting in September means having to deal with fewer tourists at normally crowded attractions, and cooler temperatures for a more pleasant walk through the cobblestone streets of Old Town Square and Charles Bridge.

Oahu is Hawaii’s most visited island, so if you want ample room to spread out and wander along its famous shores, it’s best to visit during the fall shoulder season. With fall colder fall temperatures right around the corner in most places, Santorini is the perfect place for those not quite ready to let the warm sunny days go. September is one of the best months to go to Zimbabwe for game-viewing, when wildlife congregates around diminishing waterholes as the temperatures begin to rise and the rains decrease.
